Start Norway

OVERVIEW
Start Norway, a student-led entrepreneurship organization spanning multiple Norwegian universities, was paralyzed by technical debt after two failed infrastructure deployment attempts left them dependent on an outdated, non-functional platform since 2019. With previous IT managers unable to execute critical updates between 2022 and 2024, the organization entered the 2024/25 academic year with an urgent mandate: overhaul their technological foundation or continue hemorrhaging operational efficiency. As appointed IT Manager (Clifford), he inherited a fragmented ecosystem where poor communication and inadequate legacy capabilities had stalled progress for few years.
The remediation strategy focused on rapid stabilization followed by sustainable modernization. Rather than attempting another complex bespoke deployment, Clifford implemented Google Workspace to establish reliable daily operations and introduced Monday.com as a unified CRM and project management platform to govern Start Norway's multi-university branches. Working cross-functionally with HR, it orchestrated the migration of critical organizational data from fragmented Excel spreadsheets into Monday.com's structured environment, eliminating version-control chaos and establishing single-source-of-truth data governance. This streamlined technology stack replaced the brittle legacy systems with cloud-native solutions optimized for student organization's resource constraints and collaboration requirements.
Within one month, Start Norway transitioned from technological dysfunction to operational reliability. The modernized infrastructure now delivers the performance and stability the organization had lacked since 2019, requiring only routine, low-cost maintenance to sustain optimal performance. By prioritizing cost-effective sustainability over complex custom builds, the solution ensures that future student leadership transitions will not trigger the same catastrophic knowledge-loss that plagued previous attempts. The successful legacy system overhaul demonstrates how strategic tool selection and methodical data migration can resurrect dormant organizational infrastructure without enterprise-scale budgets.
